What Are the Requirements to Be a Surrogate?
Choosing to become a surrogate is one of the most selfless and life-changing decisions a woman can make. It’s a journey filled with love, purpose, and profound connection. Once you decide to explore this path, it’s completely natural to have a thousand questions, and we’re here to walk with you through all of them.
Let’s start with the basics, so you can understand what’s needed to begin this incredible journey.
Health Requirements
Your health, and the health of the baby you’ll carry, means everything to us. These guidelines help ensure a safe and joyful experience for everyone involved.
• You are between the ages of 21 and 42.
• You’ve experienced at least one healthy pregnancy and delivery of your own.
• You have no history of serious pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, preterm labor, or pregnancy-induced hypertension. These precautions are here to protect you and your beautiful family.
• You have no health conditions that could worsen during pregnancy.
• You maintain a healthy BMI under 35.
Lifestyle Requirements
Surrogacy is both a physical and emotional commitment… and we want to make sure you’re surrounded by the healthiest, most supportive environment possible.
• You are tobacco-free and not exposed to secondhand smoke. (If you’ve recently quit, good for you!… you’ll just need to be smoke-free for at least six months prior to medical screening.)
• You live in a surrogacy-friendly state. Sadly, surrogacy isn’t legal everywhere just yet. At this time, we’re unable to accept applicants from Louisiana or Nebraska.
• If you are not a U.S. citizen, you’ll need a valid Green Card or Visa with at least three years of validity… this protects both you and the baby.
• You and your partner have no felony convictions. We know life can take unexpected turns, but it’s our responsibility to make sure Intended Parents feel fully confident and at peace with the amazing woman helping them grow their family.
Financial Requirements
You must be financially stable. Surrogacy should not be intended to serve as your sole source of income. There also can be no history of bankruptcy in the last year.
